We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior CM Automation Specialist to support a large government contract in Rockville, Maryland!

Role and Responsibilities:

The role of the configuration management automation specialist is to automate multiple Dev/Ops improvements for a large system.  The position will require demonstrated experience in automated process improvements, as well managing configuration management systems.   This is a “hands on” position and will require active participation with all internal and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform duties as a member of the Configuration Management (CM) Team. All tasking is under direction of the CM and Release team management
  • Must be able to demonstrate great initiative to make DevOps the foundation for the new QA approach
  • Must be able to participate in Requirements and Design reviews and be able to make recommendations for greater Product quality and testability
  • Must be able to write automation scripts
  • Work closely with individuals and groups to resolve problems, analyze alternatives, negotiate differences, and make recommendations for improvements
  • Communicate and work effectively across organizational lines, resolving differences among offices, individuals and sub-contractors, and explaining key management and administrative policies and procedures
  • Create and maintain Configuration Management policies; ability to write communications and documentation that explain complex information in plain language
  • Maintain the integrity of work product configuration items throughout their life cycle. Our configuration items include the custom developed software, software configuration settings, database settings, operating system setting, security settings, environment settings, documentation, and licensing
  •  Identify and document the functional and physical characteristics of a configuration item
  • Designs and establishes management documentation
  • Assist in code migration and integration from development, test, stage, pre-production and production environments to ensure continuity throughout the incremental and Agile and Software Engineering Life Cycles (SELC)
  • Evaluates asset and configuration management tools and recommends those that best meet the organization’s budget, resource, timescale and technical requirements; directly or indirectly customizes proprietary tools to produce effective asset and configuration management environments in terms of databases and software libraries, workflows and report generation
  • Conduct environment audits against deployment instructions as well as other environments
  • Maintain integrity and traceability of configuration items
  • May train software developers in the use of configuration management tools and the implementation of software quality standards
Qualifications and Essential Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of Configuration Management experience or the equivalent combination of education and training
  • Be able and willing to drive automation solutions across Ops, DEV and testing teams
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to work within a team environment
  • Knowledge of industry recognized configuration models such as ITIL, CMMI and/or ISO; experience and ability to implement lifecycle CM processes and procedures in an diverse IT development environment
  • Experience with automated version management and tracking tools (Subversion and Bit Bucket) & Atlassian (JIRA, Fish eye, Crucible, Confluence) Tools
  • Experience creating automated dev/ops procedures using Jenkins, PuppIT, Jmanage, Ansible
  • Experience with Microsoft tools including Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience maintaining knowledge sharing repositories (SharePoint, wiki, …)
  • Experience with writing, editing, and maintaining software production and process documentation (Release Notes, Version Description Diagram, Implementation plans, creating baselines, CM auditing and preparing for Agile & Incremental SLDC milestone gates)
  • Experience in creating and maintaining the Project Configuration Management Plan
  • Ensure that configuration management policy, practices, and standards are fully enforced and implemented across the Program to include training and tool use
  • Experience with conducting all level of a Change Control Board (CCB)
  • Demonstrated experience creating automated continuous delivery dev/ops procedures using Jenkins, PuppIT, Jmanage, Ansible…
  • Experience in a scripting language (java, python..)
  • Telework will not be considered
  • DevOps concepts preferred
  • Non US Citizens are required to have lived in the United States for the last 36 consecutive months to meet the clearance requirement
