We are seeking a Senior High-Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer for our FDA Scientific program.  The program supports the FDA and their scientists in Scientific Computing which includes but is not limited to technical and research aspects (e.g., hardware, software, laboratory environment) supporting the Center for Food Safety and Nutrition (CFSAN). Responsibilities include leading and directing the employees supporting the HPC Engineering directives, ensuring that work is delivered with quality and is on time with proper documentation. Additional tasking maybe required as directed by the HPC Program Technical Lead.
 
CFSAN Scientific Computing provides support to the scientific computing community to numerous FDA centers.  The support extends from workstation support to standing up an HPC within the FDA Scientific Data Center. 
 
The Sr. HPC Engineer duties will include, but not be limited to:
  • Work with the CFSAN HPC Technical lead and team to implement significant HPC architecture changes to support the diverse scientific disciplines within FDA. 
  • Support data center and operation logistics for assigned areas
  • Active participant in HPC community (either DoD, DHS or DoE in particular) and professional societies
  • Work with the team to develop briefings and other materials to assist with providing technical information to senior FDA management.
  • Require FDA Public trust eligibility
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, or some combination of experience/education
  • 10+ years of experience in high performance computing or similar tasks in a technical domain
  • 10+ years in Engineering
  • In depth knowledge of advanced computational environments (software/architecture interface, code optimization, scaling for high core counts, accelerators, etc.)
  • Significant experience working within a Linux based environment
  • In depth knowledge of xCAT, Rocks Clusters, RHEL, CentOS, and KVM virtualization software
  • In depth knowledge of GPFS, Lustre and pNFS parallel filesystems
  • Strong shell scripting and familiarity with Perl, Python, Ruby languages
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Extensive documented experience within complex technical projects/teams
  • Previous experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with a high level of customer interaction where priorities often change and escalate
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree/PhD
  • Experience with the FDA
  • Experience in a scientific domain
  • Previous experience within a scientific domain is highly desired
